The Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector is responsible for ensuring fabricated pipe spools and
assemblies meet engineering drawings, client specifications, and applicable industry codes. This role is critical to maintaining fabrication quality through inspection, material traceability, testing coordination, and accurate QA/QC documentation throughout the fabrication lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Perform visual inspection of welds to verify quality, workmanship, and code compliance
Verify weld preparation, joint fit-up, alignment, and weld size
Ensure welding activities comply with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
Inspect pipe spools against isometric drawings for dimensions, orientation, slope, and fit-up
Verify incoming materials for correct specifications, heat numbers, and certifications
Maintain material traceability throughout fabrication
Coordinate and witness Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities (RT, UT, PT, etc.)
Review, document, and track NDT results
Maintain inspection records, weld logs, and quality documentation
Prepare, issue, and track Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
Compile and maintain final QA/QC turnover packages for client delivery
Ensure compliance with ASME, API, AWS, and client-specific standards
Support and promote adherence to shop safety policies and procedures
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
3+ years of QA/QC experience in pipe fabrication or industrial fabrication preferred
Ability to read and interpret piping isometrics and P&IDs
Working knowledge of ASTM material specifications
Strong understanding of welding processes and inspection methods
Proficiency with inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, and weld gauges
Strong attention to detail with a focus on accurate documentation
Effective communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
NDT certifications (RT, UT, PT, MT)
Experience in industrial, refinery, or power plant fabrication environments
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Reduction in rework and NCRs
Accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of QA/QC documentation
Compliance with quality standards, codes, and safety requirements
